Why SEO is important for any website?

I don’t know much about SEO. But i want my website in top rank in search engines. So i want to take SEO services. Could anyone explain it, then i can decide for SEO for my business.

SEO can give your business a very good start. Most of people comes in your site through search engines. It is necessary to take SEO services for getting quality customers.
SEO have two steps. one is onpage SEO and second is offpage SEO.

Onpage SEO includes meta tags creation while offpage include link building by article, blog, directories, press release or other type of submission.

    I can pretty much teach you SEO in this answer:

    1) Submit your site to lots of search engines and directories.
    2) Make sure your content is written to be rich in keywords you want to target (where there isn’t too much competition, but still sufficient traffic)
    3) Don’t have an overly long or unusual domain name.
    4) Make sure your site loads quickly – optimise the content/images/scripts to be lean
    5) Create high quality content
    6) Work hard to get links from other sites/webmasters – also post your link to forums, blogs and so on.
    7) Use social networking tools like "digg this" or addthis.

    Once you attract visitors to your site use the following advice to try to retain them:
    1) Update your content often
    2) Encourage people to subscribe to a site feed/email newsletter
    3) Build a community site (optional)

    SEO is most important if you are trying to sell a product or rely on ad revenue – more page views equals more money, however for hobby/fan sites it also matters if you are trying to expand your site into a more comprehensive and useful resource.

    SEO is important to the extent that a site with unique and good content is not beaten by some site devoid of useful content but having a good SEO. So rather than focussing too much on seo, try to focus on unique and useful content. Your readers will pull you up in search rankings.
